Day Two

Session I
 The Clean Energy Paradigm :
 Meeting the climate challenge together
  Session II
 Reaching the Customer :
from regional wholesale to seamless retail markets

EURELECTRIC has committed to achieving a carbon-neutral power supply by 2050 and has formally called upon European and national policy-makers to help achieve this goal.Effective carbon markets and the development and diffusion of low-carbon technologies are crucial in this respect, and the regulatory and industry requirements on the greening of the global economy will be key elements of the climate debate.

Across Europe harmonization of Wholesale markets and TSO roles are ongoing. On DSO roles and Retail processes, more now needs to be done to establish an efficient market flowing from wholesale to retail and providing the final customers with choice, ease-of-use and competitive offers. Smart grids will change the retail market and provide new opportunities for DSOs, retailers, new players and the consumer. The DSO will have an instrumental role in providing fair and non discriminatory network capacity, metering and, in close interaction with suppliers, smooth functioning processes for switching of supplier. Suppliers will compete amongst each other to offer a large range of contracts at competitive prices. As competition also brings increased interaction, and in order to ease the processes for the customers, the supplier will act as the sole contact point.

Session keynote speeches will be followed by 2-3 focused presentations – in the exhibition hall – aimed at demonstrating practical examples of “new energy world” projects and developments under way. This will be followed by a panel debate, with questions structured around an e-voting session with the audience.
