EURELECTRIC Conference
“BUILDING A SECURE AND SUSTAINABLE FUTURE: HOW CAN MARKET INTEGRATION CONTRIBUTE?”
17 March 2010
Hotel Renaissance, Rue du Parnasse 19, 1050 Brussels
Concluding Remarks
The conference closed with a speech by EURELECTRIC President
Lars G. Josefsson, summarising the debates of the day by stating that "we can not be satisfied because we are very much behind" in the targets foreseen. However he referred to the new energy and the great deal of commitment brought by the new Commissioner who has firm goals for market integration by 2015. Mr. Josefsson emphasised the need for "harmonisation" as the key word in the whole debate. Yet, looking at the reality, especially at the different RES support schemes, this of course has not been achieved so far. He pointed to the fact that it is not only about governments’ support but also stakeholders that might be interested in preserving the status quo.
Hence, he invited electricity industry as well "to look into the mirror from time to time, asking ourselves if we are really contributing to the process". In conclusion, Mr Josefsson reaffirmed his belief that market integration will eventually be reached. The only question is "how long will it take?"
