EURELECTRIC IN BRIEF

The Union of the Electricity Industry - EURELECTRIC is the professional association which represents the electricity industry at pan-European level, plus its affiliates and associates on several other continents.

EURELECTRIC’s mission is to contribute to the development and competitiveness of the electricity industry and to promote the role of electricity in the advancement of society.

As a centre of strategic expertise, EURELECTRIC identifies and represents the common interests of Members and assists them in formulating common solutions to be implemented, and in coordinating and carrying out the necessary actions, also liaising with other international associations and organisations. Within the European Union, EURELECTRIC represents the electricity industry in public affairs, in particular in relation to the EU legislative institutions so as to promote the interests of Members at a political level and create awareness of the industry’s views.

EURELECTRIC’s Full Member structure is based on national representation. Currently there are 32 Full Members, including all 25 EU Member States, acceding countries and current candidate countries negotiating to join the Community, plus other European OECD countries. EURELECTRIC also currently has just over 30 non-voting Affiliate and Associate Members representing the electricity industry across the rest of Europe, in the Mediterranean basin and on four other continents. Membership is enriched by 24 Business Associates from other sectors with stakeholder links to or interest in the electricity industry.

EURELECTRIC’s opinions, policy positions and reports are formulated in some 30 expert Working Groups, supervised by five Committees, plus a number of special groups and expert networks. This “structure of expertise” ensures that input to EURELECTRIC positions comes from several hundred active electricity sector professionals and that our Members are profoundly involved in forging common views on subjects of shared interest.
