Conference Programme

Opening and Keynote

Welcoming over 400 delegates to the EURELECTRIC Annual Convention, Lars G. Josefsson, outgoing EURELECTRIC President and former President & CEO of Vattenfall, expressed his “full faith in the new presidential team” and stressed that with a power sector at an “unprecedented crossroads … never has EURELECTRIC been more relevant.” The EURELECTRIC Convention on “Delivering investments to meet Europe’s energy and climate needs” addresses the challenges Europe is facing in terms of power investment, both as regards generation capacity and electricity infrastructure. The current decade represents a crucial period of investment in Europe’s energy system that will determine our energy structure for the next 30 to 40 years, he noted.

Welcoming the Convention’s participants to his country, Daniel Johansson, Swedish State Secretary at the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy & Communications, stated that the electricity industry was “obviously at the heart of Europe and at the heart of what is going on in the world” and facing “huge challenges for the coming years.” Mr Johansson pointed to the benefits of greater market transparency and a level playing field and emphasised that “putting a price on carbon is the best way forward.”
