Customer-Centric Retail Markets: A Future-Proof Market Design
07 December 2011
EURELECTRIC Meeting Centre (6th floor), Boulevard de l'Impératrice 66, 1000 Brussels, Belgium
As a key building block of the EU's internal electricity market, the development of well-functioning electricity retail markets is crucial to ensure that citizens fully reap the advantages of liberalised electricity markets and, in the near future, participate in the integration of renewable energy sources (RES) through active demand response.
Over the past year, EURELECTRIC has explored a large range of national retail market models across the EU. The resulting report champions a greater convergence of retail electricity markets based on common general market design aspects. As a follow-up to the discussions held at the 4th Citizens' Energy Forum in October and in the context of the negotiations on the Energy Efficiency Directive, the purpose of this workshop is to discuss the state of play of various existing retail market models and test with the audience the rationale and practicalities underlying EURELECTRIC's proposed future-proof market design.
Workshop participants will tackle the key design aspects of a customer-centric model and elaborate how they would benefit the functioning of retail electricity markets if they are adopted across the EU. In doing so, the workshop will also look into the necessary stepping stones for competitive retail markets to materialise across the EU in a consistent and coordinated manner.
This one-day workshop aims to attract a diversified audience and high-level speakers from the European Commission, regulators, energy experts and consultants.
