Green eMotion - Development of a European Framework for Electro-Mobility

Government of Catalonia Delegation to the EU

Sustainable Energy Week - 18-22 June 2012

Green eMotion aims to create and demonstrate by 2015 a widely-accepted, user-friendly European framework for electric vehicles, consisting of interoperable and scalable technical solutions in connection with a sustainable business platform. To this end, 43 players from the energy sector, automotive industry, ICT and service providers, municipalities as well as universities and research institutions have joined forces, including EURELECTRIC. This large-scale demonstration project is part of the Green Cars initiative included in the European Commission's economic recovery package. In addition to the partners' contribution of €42 million, the Commission has earmarked more than €24 million to support the comprehensive project. The Green eMotion project consortium will draw on experience from existing demonstration projects in order to define best practices and establish a reference model for a sustainable, safe roll-out of EVs, within an overall framework that embraces the development of smart electricity grids, innovative ICT solutions, plus all types of EVs. It will also take urban mobility concepts into account. By connecting on-going regional and national e-mobility initiatives, Green eMotion will be able to leverage the results and compare different technological approaches to ensure that the best solutions prevail for the EU's single market.

The conference provided a snapshot of the project activities and results so far achieved. In addition, there was an inauguration ceremony of two charging stations at the EC premises.
