Cybersecurity in Electricity Distribution Grids

EURELECTRIC Meeting Centre (6th floor)

The "Talking Smart Grids" workshops initiative was launched in 2012 and consists of a series of practical workshops, each of them focusing on a specific technology. The initiative aims to gather experts from different sectors to contribute to the future vision of the smart grids in the EU. Each workshop includes sharing the results of concrete smart grid research projects and experiences on technological progress. An open roundtable discussion to discuss policy needs for further smart grid uptake takes place as well.

The International Energy Agency and EURELECTRIC organise jointly these workshops since November 2014, for which participants to “Talking Smart Grids” workshops have access to highly valuable input from IEA delegates who are actively involved in the drafting of the agenda.

“Talking Smart Grids” workshops are taking place in Brussels and are open to the public (80 participants maximum). Smart grid project promoters, researchers, DSO experts, manufacturers and European institution representatives working in the field of smart grids are particularly welcome to attend the workshops. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss lessons learned as well as to further deepen their knowledge about latest cutting-edge industry developments.

The 8th workshop from the series will be held on 15 October in Brussels with the topic of “Cybersecurity in Electricity Distribution Grids”. Cybersecurity has been identified as an important area to consider for the future of smart grids. EU institutions and industry are committed to tackle cyber-risks to increase the protection of the systems. During the workshop, high level speakers from the academia will share their projects looking at future ways to enhance cybersecurity. Industry representatives will also share current experiences in their countries while members of the European Commission will discuss the recent adopted EU Cybersecurity strategy and its industrial dimension. A number of initiatives undertaken under the Strategy’s umbrella will be presented.
