ACCOMPANYING PERSONS PROGRAMME

Monday 14 June 2004 - Accompanying Persons Tour – Fashion in Lyon

Silk can now be found all over the world, but it is in Lyon that silk has its origins. During the morning there is the possibility to visit two warehouses still in use:

The Saint-Georges Silk House
Based in the old part of St. Georges, you will have the possibility to see all the various uses of silk. This is a place which is waiting to tell you its story.

The André-Claude Canova Warehouse
Mr. Canova is known for his silk creations sold world-wide. Here a presentation will be given on the techniques used by Mr. Canova. You will also have the possibility to visit the finishing room and the showroom.

Lunch at the restaurant “Caro de Lyon” followed by a visit to the area known as “Croix Rousse”.

A visit of the “Thiaffait Passage”
Built in 1827, and recently renovated in 1997 this passage includes 900m² of textile companies and warehouses. This passage also houses the “Creators Village” of fashion and textile, where roughly 12 warehouse-shops are rented to budding creators. This village helps enforce Lyon’s image being the centre of fashion.

The tour will depart from the Palais des Congrès at 09.00.
Bi-lingual (FR-EN) guides will guide the group for the day.
