Ignacio Gutiérrez-Orrantia is Director of the European Energy&Power Investment
Banking team for Merrill Lynch. He joined Merrill Lynch in 2002 from Goldman Sachs
where he previously worked. His extensive and outstanding banking experience comprises
mergers, acquisitions, privatisation advisory services, and financing mainly for
Energy&Power clients but also in several other sectors. Ignacio also covers Energy
& Power clients in the Iberian region for Merrill Lynch. Some of the most notable
transactions in the energy and power sector in which Ignacio has been involved
are Pemex recent exchangeable bond into Repsol, Spanish utilities' electricity
tariff deficit (Euro1.5bnb), advisory to Ministry of Finance in recent Portuguese
spin-off of galp assets, the sale of Unión Fenosa's Dominican Republic distribution
assets, sale of 28% stake of electric utilities in REE, the Repsol YPF's partial
divestiture of stake in Gas Natural, privatisation of Enagás in 1996 and its IPO
in 2002, the Iberdrola's convertible bond into Repsol YPF's shares, the Unión
Fenosa's sale of 25% stake in Unión Fenosa Generation to National Power in 1998
and the subsequent buy-back from International Power in 2001, the Unión Fenosa's
failed tender offer for Hidrocantábrico, the Endesa's acquisition of Enersis and
consecutive Enersis' acquisition of Endesa-Chile, the Endesa's tender offer for
Fecsa and Sevillana de Electricidad, the EDP's privatisation, the Repsol's two-stage
acquisition of YPF and previously also worked on Repsol's several partial privatisations
between 1996 and 1997 Outside the energy sector, Ignacio has also been involved
in major transactions including the IPO of Terra, the merger of CTC-Startel in
Chile, the Allied Domecq's tender offer for Bodegas y Bebidas, the creation of
Realia and the acquisition of 25% stake in Telefónica Internacional Ignacio holds
a Degree in Business Administration from the University of Deusto. He is married
and father of two children
