Energy-Climate Package: EURELECTRIC sends letter to energy and environment ministers

03 July 2008

EURELECTRIC has addressed a letter to EU energy and environment ministers, ahead of their informal session of 3-4 July in Paris under French presidency, setting out the electricity industry's views on key aspects of the the EU energy - climate package.

EURELECTRIC stresses the importance of finding a proper policy framework to develop and deploy carbon capture and storage, without compromising other policies such as the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS). The letter also highlights the need to ensure long-term visibility as regards emissions reductions and therefore welcomes the EU-wide cap as set out in the ETS review. Finally, the letter reiterates EURELECTRIC' s belief that incentivising renewable energy should be carried out in a way that is fully compatible with the internal market.
