The concept of resource efficiency is broader than just environmental protection: it aims at a path of sustainable growth through an efficient use of often scarce resources. Natural resources such as water, soil, minerals and air are essential to ensure quality of life and underpin economic activities.
As a sector, we are committed to using natural resources as efficiently as possible. This is crucial to meet the EU's 2020 targets and 2050 vision for climate change. It also helps to protect other valuable assets and services natural resources provide to business and society as a whole, such as fresh water, clean air, flood control or climate regulation.
Every two years we publish our Environment and Sustainable Development Report (ESDR). It covers a number of indicators related to the three pillars of sustainable development: economic, environment and social/societal. Numerous examples of good practice from electricity companies illustrate how the sector is integrating sustainable development into its activities.
