EU-Japan Workshop on the Power Sector Transition

Co-organised event between the European Commission, the EU Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation & EURLECTRIC Europe and Japan are in the midst of a transformational change of their energy sectors.

The electricity sector is at the heart of this transformation and policies being considered and implemented in Japan and the EU will play a crucial role in this process.

The European Commission, EURELECTRIC and the EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, in cooperation with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, were pleased to organise an EU-Japan Workshop in Tokyo to exchange views on recent changes & and future trends in the power sectors of Europe and Japan. The main objective is to improve the mutual understanding of the sector developments and to share insights and lessons learned about key features of EU and Japanese energy policies.

At this workshop, energy policymakers and industry executives explained their current challenges and present their future strategies. Representatives from both industry and policy-making were invited to give their views and information on solutions they were contemplating.

Key discussion topics were: energy transition, electricity market liberalisation, and innovation.
