Artificial intelligence is rapidly shifting from experimentation to large‑scale deployment across the energy sector — from regulated network operators to competitive power producers. Yet one challenge unites all players: proving where AI creates real value, how to prioritise investments, and what a credible business case looks like in environments shaped either by regulatory constraints and/or market pressures.
This Digitopia Business Hub session, co‑hosted with Microsoft, brings together leaders from across the electricity value chain to explore how AI can strengthen grid reliability, optimise generation assets, enhance customer operations, unlock flexibility, and improve market performance. We will examine how DSOs can align AI investments with regulatory expectations, and how producers and retailers can use AI to improve margins, reduce risk, and compete more effectively.
Through strategic insights, a lively panel debate, and a hands‑on session, participants will exchange and experience how to move from AI ambition to AI value realization — with business cases that scale, convince, and deliver across both regulated and competitive segments of the energy system.

Digitopia public panels: Powering AI, Empowering AI
Date: 10 November (Day 1 of Enlit)
Time: 13:15–15:15
Location: Digitalisation: Tech, Innovation & Connectivity Hub, Hall B, Messe Wien
AI and electricity are entering a two-way revolution: AI needs power, and power increasingly needs AI. Across Europe, data centres and AI workloads are becoming major new sources of electricity demand, while utilities and system operators are beginning to deploy AI across the power value chain: from forecasting and grid planning to flexibility, asset management and system resilience.
Eurelectric’s Era of Electric Intelligence initiative captures this dual transformation through two lenses: Power for AI and AI for Power. The first asks how Europe can connect, power and integrate data centres sustainably. The second explores how AI can help the power sector operate a cleaner, more flexible and more resilient electricity system.
Against this backdrop, the first Digitopia panel will examine what the EU Tech Sovereignty Package means for the power sector, five months after its publication. The second panel will focus on the flexibility potential of data centres, exploring whether large digital loads can move from being seen mainly as a system challenge to becoming active partners in a more flexible grid.
Together, the two panels will explore how Europe can align its AI, cloud and data centre ambitions with a secure, decarbonised and increasingly intelligent electricity system. Rather than treating AI, data centres, grid digitalisation and flexibility as separate topics, the session will look at their convergence: how Europe’s digital infrastructure can be integrated into the electricity system, and how digital tools can help the power sector manage that transformation.

Panel I: From tech sovereignty to electric intelligence — what the EU Tech Sovereignty Package means for the power sector
13:25-14:15
In June 2026, the European Commission published its Tech Sovereignty Package, marking a new phase in Europe’s digital agenda. With the Strategic Roadmap on Digitalisation and AI in the Energy Sector and the proposed Cloud and AI Development Act, the package recognises a growing reality: Europe’s AI, cloud and data centre ambitions depend on a secure, decarbonised and increasingly digital electricity system, while the power sector itself is becoming more data-driven, automated and AI-enabled.
Five months on, this panel will take stock of what the package means in practice for the power sector and its implementation implications: how can utilities, grid operators, technology providers, data centre operators and policymakers turn Europe’s digital sovereignty agenda into an energy system opportunity? The panel will explore how Europe can move from tech sovereignty as a policy ambition to “electric intelligence” as an operational reality: a power system that is more digital, flexible, resilient and capable of enabling Europe’s wider industrial and AI ambitions.

Panel II: From power demand to grid asset — unlocking the flexibility potential of data centres
14:15-15:15
As AI, cloud and digital services expand across Europe, data centres are becoming one of the most visible sources of new electricity demand. This raises an increasingly important question for the power sector: how can Europe connect and power data centres sustainably, while ensuring that they contribute positively to the electricity system?
Beyond the challenge of rising demand, data centres may also represent an emerging source of flexibility. Through workload shifting, battery storage, backup power systems, grid-aware operations, clean electricity procurement and closer coordination with system operators, data centres could help integrate renewables, reduce pressure on constrained grids and contribute to system resilience.
This panel will explore whether data centres can move from being perceived mainly as large electricity consumers to becoming active partners in a more flexible power system. Rather than focusing on data centre demand growth in general, the discussion will examine the specific conditions under which data centres can provide flexibility, what grid signals and market arrangements are needed, and how utilities, system operators, data centre companies, technology providers and policymakers can work together to turn digital infrastructure into a source of system value.

EVision: From Charging Sites to Energy Hubs
Date: 11 November (Day 2 of Enlit)
Time: 10:00–11:00 CET
Location: Sustainable Mobility Hub, Hall B, Messe Wien
Fleet electrification is emerging as the key inflection point in Europe’s mobility transition. Corporate fleets already account for around 60% of new vehicle sales and represent the fastest lever to scale electric mobility across the continent.
As policymakers debate the best way to accelerate the transition – through binding corporate fleet targets, enabling framework conditions, or a combination of both – attention is increasingly shifting from ambition to implementation.
Eurelectric’s EVision workstream and its 2026 Fleet Forward report show that this shift is not only transforming transport, but increasingly reshaping the power system. As fleets electrify at scale, charging demand is becoming concentrated in depots, logistics centres and corporate sites, turning e-mobility into a system integration challenge for electricity networks.
These sites are no longer just points of consumption. With smart charging, energy management, and on-site generation and storage, they can evolve into energy hubs – flexible assets that support renewable integration and improve grid efficiency. At the same time, unmanaged deployment risks creating grid constraints, delays and rising system costs.
As Europe moves from policy ambition to real-world implementation, the key question is no longer whether fleets will electrify, but what policy, market and infrastructure conditions are needed to ensure that fleet electrification delivers value for both mobility and electricity systems.
This EVision public panel will explore how fleet charging sites can move from being perceived as grid stress points to becoming active contributors to a more flexible and resilient European power system.

EVision Hub: Cybersecure Interoperability: Building a Trusted, Cross‑Border EV Charging System
Date: 12 November (Day 3 of Enlit)
Time: 14:30–16:30 CET
Location: Business Suites 3 & 4, upper floor, VIECON – Vienna Congress & Convention Center
As electric mobility scales across Europe, EV charging is becoming more interconnected, data‑driven and cross‑border. Roaming platforms, digital identities, payment systems and real‑time data exchange are now essential to delivering a seamless user experience. At the same time, charging infrastructure is increasingly recognised as part of critical energy infrastructure — raising the stakes for cybersecurity, data integrity and trust.
Today’s charging ecosystem relies on multiple layers of interoperability standards, platforms and interfaces. While technical compatibility has improved, operational trust remains uneven. Cyber risks, fragmented data governance, inconsistent implementation of standards and varying security practices across markets create vulnerabilities that can undermine both system reliability and consumer confidence.
This EVision session focuses on how Europe can move from basic interoperability to trusted interoperability — ensuring that cross‑border EV charging systems are not only connected, but secure, resilient and fit for scale.
