Gridspertise Group, a technology company enabling grid modernization through intelligence solutions, established in 2021 as a carve-out of Enel Group to deliver digital transformation to power utilities worldwide, recently joined Eurelectric and is participating in their collaborative hub, Grids for Speed. This membership reflects the Group’s commitment to supporting Europe’s energy transition through innovation, collaboration, dialogue on policy shaping and technology, as well as the modernisation and digital transformation of European electricity grids.
We interviewed Gridspertise Group’s Head of Public Affairs and Partnerships, Luiz Gazulha Jr, to better understand the importance of this new partnership.
What are the main opportunities that joining Eurelectric opens for Gridspertise Group?
By joining Eurelectric, we aim to support the energy transition and closely follow relevant EU regulation and policy landscape to build a stronger regulatory framework in Europe. The association is well-recognized all over Europe in its regulatory and policy standpoints. Our global experience can add real value in developing strategic discussions.
We also see this as an environment for partnership, where we can generate opportunities together – not only by exchanging ideas, but by co-creating new products and systems that support the future of energy in Europe.
How does your participation in initiatives like Grids for Speed Hub align with Gridspertise’s long-term goals for grid modernisation in Europe?
The Grids for Speed Hub is a strategic initiative launched by Eurelectric to accelerate the modernisation and strategic build-out of Europe’s power grids. It serves as a collaborative platform where utilities, manufacturers, service providers and other stakeholders develop practical solutions to key grid challenges – such as resilience, digitalisation, asset management, strategic planning or capacity expansion.
By offering technical guidance, best practices, and real-world use cases, the Grids for Speed Hub acts as a go-to-reference for countries aiming to upgrade their grid infrastructure. Our active involvement in this ecosystem reinforces our commitment to innovation and positions us as a key player in Europe’s energy transition.
What role do you see Gridspertise playing within the Eurelectric network, and how can we contribute to enhancing innovation at EU level?
As a European company with a global footprint, Gridspertise Group brings a unique example to Eurelectric’s Grids for Speed Hub. Our international experience can enrich Eurelectric’s work. Even though Europe leads in the energy transition, we can still learn from global experiences. We are an innovation-driven company, and our mindset and technological know-how can serve as a good example. Being rooted in Italy – home to one of the most advanced electricity grids in the world – gives us a strong foundation of technical excellence and regulatory insight that we bring to the European conversation.
Eurelectric champions digital, data-driven interoperable networks, and robust public policy frameworks to drive the energy transition. How does Gridspertise Group ensure its digital solutions support these EU priorities – and what capabilities do you see as key in the coming years?
Gridspertise Group fully aligns with Eurelectric’s vision by delivering digital, interoperable and data-driven solutions that help build a more resilient, flexible energy system which provides modular scalable and cloude-edge architecture to support DSOs in managing a secure and resilient power grid. Our portfolio – including smart meters, edge computing, and a LV SCADA system – is based on open, standardised architecture to enable real-time visibility, bidirectional flows, and the integration of distributed energy resources.
But digitalisation is not a layer – it’s the foundation of tomorrow’s grid. For this reason, we are bringing intelligence beyond the smart meter, into substations and scalable platforms that transform static infrastructure into dynamic, responsive ecosystems. Looking ahead, we see four capabilities as key to this transformation: include real-time observability and automation at the low-voltage level; edge intelligence for fast, local decision-making; scalable, cloud platforms for rapid deployment, continuous innovation, and regulatory-ready solutions aligned with output-based models and performance indicators.
Through these, and with a strong understanding of policy and market dynamics, our Group helps DSOs to adjust their grids to the needs of the electricity consumers of the 21st century.
