Smart sector integration breaks the silos

Press Release

The development of new partnerships is essential to complete the full decarbonisation of all sectors of the economy.

Driving the joint efforts to fight climate change requires clear decarbonisation goals for 2030 and 2050 and Europe needs an ambitious smart sector integration strategy to:

  • Unlock all the system benefits resulting from positive synergies among sectors;
  • Foster energy efficiency;
  • Benefit from decarbonised and renewable energy sources across the economy.

By integrating sectors, Europe will make the best use of clean power supply to decarbonise efficiently transport, industry and heating/ cooling.

Eurelectric therefore calls on policymakers to build a coherent smart sector integration plan, which includes efficiently phasing out fossil fuels, strengthening the energy efficiency ambitions, tackling the need for system balancing and flexibility, getting benefits from power to gas, improving cooperation and dialogue among sectors and the revision the energy governance.
