KEY MESSAGES
The European Commission and EU Member States with an interest in future nuclear should:
- Ensure technology neutrality for all net-zero power generation sources, also in terms of financing opportunities, reflecting the role of nuclear energy in the energy transition to reach EU climate targets.
- Ensure a non-discriminatory approach by removing the exclusion of nuclear technology from relevant EU funds in their current and future forms.
- Additional financial support from EU funds for new nuclear research and development (R&D), innovation and first-of-a-kind (FOAK) reactors to come into place should be provided on the foundation of technology neutrality.
- Support the development of a competitive supply chain, as well as the talent and skills required to advance new nuclear in a timely way.
- Facilitate more regional cooperation in the harmonisation of joint licensing, standardisation and type approval procedures across the EU.
