Aelec: Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) info retrieval and analysis

4 June 2026
AI extracts PPA key terms and risks into dashboards

    Context

Utilities managing multiple Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) often require contract management and procurement teams to analyse and compare contract terms and clauses for decision-making.

    Challenge

PPAs are complex, long, contracts – manually extracting key information such as terms, risks, pricing structures, and clauses is time‑consuming, error‑prone, and limits the ability to efficiently analyse, compare, and manage contracts across the portfolio.

    AI Solution

The solution uses AI‑based text analysis to automatically extract key data and clauses from PPA contracts stored in a centralized repository. Pre‑defined prompts structure the extracted information into dashboards, enabling faster contract analysis, comparison, and decision‑making for contract management and procurement teams.

    Impact & evidence

The solution enabled faster operations through automation, increased productivity, and efficiency and cost optimisation. Impact is evidenced by 50–70% time savings in analysing contracts and clauses, a reduction in manual contract review effort, higher user adoption rates, and faster contract comparison and decision cycles.

    Implementation / Adoption

Replication requires digital PPA contracts in PDF format, centralized document management through SharePoint, an AI processing environment such as Databricks, and BI visualization tools.
Adoption depends on legal and procurement alignment regarding contract standardization.

    Data

The solution relies on data sources such as PPA contract documents, internal contract repositories (SharePoint) and technical infrastructure such as a Databricks GEM environment and Power BI dashboards.

    Future enhancements

Planned future enhancements include evolving toward a more flexible solution to support different contract formats, identifying new fields or clauses, creating a chatbot to retrieve information in natural language, and developing tools to assess contract consistency.
