The gathered information throughout the project will be used to ensure a smooth integration of the increasing number of electric vehicles. Therefore, the use cases are themed around the integration of domestic charging stations into the electric power grid. This includes grid monitoring, the optimization of grid reinforcement and Smart Grid solutions like load management and intelligent grid components. Other use cases include the further development of grid planning principles and the adoption of engineering standards.

Project description

Netze BW wants to prepare its electric power grid for the upcoming change in mobility. Therefore, the project “Grid Integration of E-Mobility” focuses on different fields:

  • Determine the development of new charging points.
  • Develop interim solutions (such as load management and stationary battery storages) to prevent grid congestion.
  • Enhance planning principles to integrate e-mobility into the grid.
  • Participate in committee work.

Concepts are being verified in a sub-project called “Smart-Mobility-Alley”. There Netze BW provides test customers with EV to gain experience of their charging behavior and effects on the grid and tests innovative solutions for grid integration as battery storages and load management.

Use cases

Identification and prediction of future EV charging points. Integration of domestic charging stations into the electric power grid. Grid monitoring. Optimization of grid reinforcement. Smart Grid solutions (load management, intelligent grid equipment). Further development of planning principles.  Adoption of engineering standards.

Key results/findings

Grid reinforcement is necessary. Planning and operation must be adapted. Technical standards and new solutions for grid integration have to be developed. Customer-friendly solutions are essential.
